What are we running for?

on October 8, 2012 - 10:27am

We all need some type of incentive to motivate us to continue being active even when you don’t feel like it!  I know that if I do not have an event to work towards I seem to shrug off daily activity a little easier, especially when the weather does not cooperate.

Lets look a little closer to home for that carrot….  Team AMP obviously offers lots of different event options to fill that void but there are a few other amazing events here in the Upper Valley to work towards.  Team AMP has partnered with the great folks at the CHaD Half Marathon in offering our events as outstanding training for the CHaD Half Marathon that takes place at the end of October.  The CHaD Half event is an exceptional event that really focuses on a similar philosophy that we have here at Team AMP which is pushing the limits all the while having FUN!  I won’t say that we don’t care about the clock but it takes a back seat to enjoying a social experience and being active with our friends and neighbors.  Going into any event that is a little out of our comfort zone is what drives that “Carrot” incentive to get in shape to be comfortable at the actual event.  The CHaD Half Marathon course has just enough varied terrain to give you those moments when you are smiling because you feel great and those moments that you may grimace as you have to dig a little deeper.  We want you to get to the finish line in style!

The CHaD Half Marathon has such a great desire to get people active all the while having FUN with their theme and slogan.  “Be a CHaD Hero”  What exactly does that entail?  Well first off, the obvious thing is that they have broken the Guinness Book of World Records the past couple of years with the most people wearing super hero costumes at the same time.  I personally think this a genius way to relax a bit before any event!  Usually there is so much tension and anticipation before the start of an event, having everyone wearing their favorite costumes eases the tension!  I also think it channels your inner super hero….  Can’t tell you who mine is but think about who yours is when race day arrives.

Now to the real meat of why we all should “Be a CHaD Hero”:  This event raises funds that directly benefit the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth.  When you come and participate you are showing your true super hero in the fact that you are supporting such a great organization.  There are lots of children out there who would like to thank you in advance for your support!

If you are not sure if the entire Half Marathon is for you the CHaD Half crew has put together some other options that may a little more tailored to your active lifestyle.  They are now offering a 5K walk/run or the Ripcord 5K which allows a participant to add a second loop to the 5K, making the run closer to 10 miles.  If your feeling really strong, you can run the whole shooting match and never pull that Ripcord.  Let’s work towards working up to the whole shooting match one day at a time.
